If you ever feel like giving up
I'm currently traveling through the African nation of Cameroon, a country I've wanted to visit for years. It's part of a larger trip through West Africa. I came here seeking truth. Knowledge. I've always believed there's power in our actions. I believe that now more than ever after an experience I had with the Dupa tribe in the highlands of northern Cameroon...
And that got me thinking more about faith.

I met Loreyo, the mask-wearing spirit in the image above. He's a rain god and only comes out a few times a year when the rain isn't falling.
This area of Cameroon had been experiencing a drought when we arrived. The Dupa had asked us beforehand to bring a black goat to sacrifice it.
It had to be a black goat because when they have to make a sacrifice to ask for something when things aren't going well, it's supposed to be black. When they celebrate and want to say "thank you" for something, they sacrifice a white goat.
And so we got a black goat, and as we were walking up to the top of the mountain, it started to pour down raining.
So when we arrived with a black goat, everyone was ecstatic. They believe we brought the rain. And therefore the rain god himself, Loreyo, paid us a visit.
Like many tribes, the number of Dupa left in the world is dwindling. So, the fact that we were able to see this rain god was quite spectacular.
Loreyo sacrificed the goat himself. You can see the blood on the knife in the photo.
One big change that has happened in my life in the past year and a half is my faith. Faith can mean many things.
It can be faith in God.
It can be faith in the universe.
Faith that everything is going to be okay.
Faith that everything's fated and everything's happening for a reason.
But what I'm realizing now after traveling so much is faith is something that most of us have lost.
It's no wonder we are all confused, don't know our purposes, and don't trust the future.
It's because we have lost faith and we've decided to reject religion.
Most of us are agnostic, where we don't exactly know what happens after death or what's happening with the universe.
Some of us are atheists, who believe nothing happens. We die, we turn into worm food.
That used to be me.
But in the past couple of years, I've switched gears.
Seeing the faith that the Dupa people had, that if we brought a black goat, it would rain, was powerful.
Miracles do happen. But you have to put in the work.
You have to say your prayers, say your pleases and thank-yous to the universe or to whatever deity you choose.
If you do that, you almost always get what you seek. In my life, I've always gotten it.
That includes the television shows I've hosted.
The Emmy I won.
The popular podcasts I've been on.
Being on an ad in Times Square.
All the times I said to the universe, "Hey, I really want this," and had faith, it's happened.
It's the strangest secret in the world.
And so while we maybe scoff a little bit at the rain gods we see in these photos, or scoff a little bit at the Bible, or scoff a little bit about 72 virgins in the afterlife, there's something to that.
The biggest thing we've lost is the faith that everything's going to be okay.
If we truly believe that everything's going to be okay, everything will be okay.
And that's a true fact.

A Video That Made Me Laugh
A couple of weeks ago, the world was glued to the Olympics, watching the best athletes on Earth display superhuman feats of athleticism. But in recent weeks, we've gotten to see videos of athletes who were not good enough to make it to the Summer Games in Paris, including this unfortunate gymnast. Enjoy.

And that's all for now, Ismel!
I hope you enjoy the rest of your week and that you start believing that the things you want can and will come true if you speak them into existence. Just don't think you're going to nail a spinning flippy thing off a trampoline on the first try. That's probably not going to happen.
Until next time,
Chase Your Fears,
Mike
